Surrounded by fashion shops, chic restaurants and few minutes by walk to the Brera area in Milan; there is Carla Sozzani art gallery. One of the most exclusive art gallery in the city, where in the past it was the location for exhibitions of photographer such as: Annie Leibovitz, David LaChapelle and architect like the Italian Franco Albini, from the 4th of May to the 2nd of June, the most famous photojournalism contest will capture our attention with its incredible range of work.
World Press is the event of the year, a mix of exploration of unknown places, of different realities, and a chance to discover the world through the camera’s eye.
At the beginning, there are nine categories, and for each one there is the winner; the first prize for the “Picture of the year” is given to the photographer Paul Hansen, who shoot a really touching image considered as “a mirror of the truth”, a funeral ceremony of two children killed in Palestine; the photographer also won the prize in the category “Spot News”.
The other nominees who really captured my attention is the “Contemporary Issues” by the photojournalist and writer Micah Albert who represented an amazing portrait of a woman, the colour, and the attention to the details makes it an incredible picture.
I would say that I am impressed by these heroes, without the pictures the world wouldn’t be the same, the words aren’t enough, sometimes we need the silence and no explanations to appreciate the beauty or simply what’s there is around us. There are many art exhibitions in Milan of different genres, the art is everywhere, but you need to pick which one is the one made for you.
